She is a also a Licensed Acupuncturist/Herbalist and Co-Founder of Elysia Life Wellness Center in Santa Monica where she has created programs and treatment plans to help with infertility and women’s health, digestive issues, pain and chronic diseases. It's been such a pleasure to get to know Maria throughout her pregnancy and have her be a part of my Prenatal Classes and In Bloom Sessions.
1). Tell us a bit about becoming a Mother ...
I never considered myself a selfish person but motherhood is showing me the places I have attachments and not letting me hold on to them. The more I try to hold on to those attachments, habits, or rituals the more difficult my job as a mother becomes. It's really the most selfless practice I've ever experienced. I completely live for my little girl right now and it's more fulfilling than anything I've ever done for myself.
2) What were some of your main rituals during pregnancy?
Walking- I took my dog Ellie for really long walks or hikes almost everyday. If I didn't have time I would go on the elliptical for 20-30 minutes. That kind of movement kept my energy up, kept me in fresh air, and gave me space to connect with my beloved dog Ellie.
Yoga- Patti's class but not my usual Ashtanga practice which no longer worked for my sleep patterns or energy.
Weekly Acupuncture- to manage stress and symptoms
Healthy Eating- I lived on scrambled eggs my first and beginning of my second trimeter b/c that was the only thing I could get down. After that I ate really well balanced meals and stayed on my herb and supplements to support me through different phases of pregnancy.
3) How do you Live Your Magic? I listen to my teacher George's teaching on Vimeo. I constantly remind myself of his saying that are so practical and so profound. They really guide my every decision and help me face challenges knowing I'm supported. One of my favorite messages ”As above so below”, it reminds me that everything is as it should be and all is divine.
